More to Me

More to Me

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

For Julie who was a beauty like no other.

"

Much less the night upon the sky

no more than the foam to the sea

So less a breeze facing the storm

did you feel for me

More than the stars that lit the night

way more than the rain to the seed

Much more than a home to a child

was your love, my need

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
As young man my first true love was Julie Oettle. As a young man my emotions were able to rule me and the tumultuous times I had were adventures. Julie and I broke up when she started dating another man. She claimed she didn't believe that I was true to her however I had been. Years later I ran into her by accident in Henderson Kentucky where once our loves had played. Our roles were reversed. I was happily married with a child Tatertot and she was unhappily divorced. That afternoon I spent playing in the pool with her 8 yr old son swimming but as evening approached she wanted me to stay. I couldn't break the bond I had in marriage. She said to me "the man I remember would have stayed".To that I was incredulous and told her "You never knew me at all". Perhaps it is true we find fault in others for what we are guilty of ourselves.I hope she found happiness. Her lack of faith in me was disheartening and heartbreaking at the time. I think in the end she saw the error but too late.

I love this one. The simplicity lends to the overall image. I want to hug you (or shake you) when I read it. My favorite line is the home to a child line. Great work.

Thank you Ruby I tried so hard to make this as simple as I am
your note about the incident describes your personality...i have lots of respect for you.. not just as writer but as a person too...about this poem.. like all your works its a wonderful picture.. yes in comparison to some things few things always look small and meaningless, but they all are of importance but we all realize it very late.. thanks for sharing your work with us :)

Your note here reminded me of a similar situation that Garth Brooks sings about in "Unanswered Prayers". You wanted something so bad it dominated your thoughts at the time. It all worked out well in the end.

I like how you used such good use of imagery to describe how you felt for her and how she felt for you.and that you used an experience of your life to make this poem to describe what you felt for her and how your guys role were reversed years later which I kinda think it was karma since she ended up divorced and you happily married.

Thank you dear
We women always tend to let go the ones we should have held on to, the ones we prayed for. But you found someone who understood you for who you are. And that is good.

I'm very impressed, Tate. It would have been so easy for you to expound on the theme, and make it a much lesser work than it is. But your imagery was sublime, and said it all. Kudos my friend.
