We count most years of life well spent the few touched by sorrow well lost I know the best that came and went the others bought at twice the cost

It takes some time to find the way

that leads us to life's master plan

Till then we take it day by day

as the boy grows to be a man

Matching hearts beat to inner rhyme 

we'll end it the same together

 

When minds are tired and our hearts old

oh we'll cherish those days of strife

For one more chance to be so bold

as to touch heaven in this life

Always philosophical, Tate. I do tend to agree with Marie, however, on that V.2 line 3. - 'that' came and went instead of 'have' came and went. There is always a certain wistfulness about your poetry, that life is passing by too quickly, and you are looking back already, before it's done. Hang on to the present, my friend, before it also becomes the past.

I agree I guess on that line as it is not perfect I shall change it. The sounds have to feel right for me to make the flow work. Lets see what happens if I change it. Thanks Dave I trust your judgement on that

This is a beautiful poem...I'm glad to hear such a sweet story!
