The Error Of My Ways

The Error Of My Ways

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

I missed chances so golden for the error of my ways.

"

Every sweet life flowers golden

Mixing old colors in with the new.

Creating a wonderful child each time.

Of a mixed ever changing hue.

____________________________

My life has been both heartache.

Along by spirits of love in rain.

Tossed up around and foundered.

With the dreams I cannot attain.

____________________________

As I recall the lost soft beauty.

For aching spirit in still delight.

I looked to Gods sweet Heaven.

With thoughts that stir the night.

____________________________

For life's time waits on none of us.

It masters fate with earnest callous.

Caring for none in favored mercy.

Helping not who it shows malice.

_____________________________

But I shall have known wisdom.

With his brother mighty pain.

As my friends they so haunt me.

Joys I may never know again.

_____________________________

I walked the earth so emboldened.

In my brazen younger days.

That I missed chances so golden.

For the poor error of my ways!

Don't you think we really do learn more by making mistakes, especially if we try desperately never to make the same mistakes again. Nobody's perfect.

There's so much honesty and sincerity in your words that almost humble intentions: ' My life has been both heartache. Along by spirits of love in rain. Tossed up around and foundered. With the dreams I cannot attain. ' Because we make mistakes doesn't mean we can't dream and dream again.

This is such a lovely piece of writing, beautifully formatted, words that ring with understanding of self, and, consequently, has great riches to share.

Wisdom and pain may have taken some of your carefree ways, but they have replaced them with a light of understanding that can help many see their own path clearer.....really beautiful and wistful, I could feel the ache of longing in your words for what could have been.

mis-spent youth~ so it would seem~ we just don't see

the errors of our ways and therefore we do miss so much, indeed,

well expressed and nicely penned!

Wow this one was full of wisdom.. soft undertones of sadness creeping out of the entire writing. Many will understand this one.. even those chasing dreams.. for if they have not achieved other things such as building a family.. some have to choose.. and can not have both. Great deep rhythm.. rhyme was spot on.. the story was sad but empowering all the same. I loved the lines:

For life's time waits on none of us.
It masters fate with earnest callous.
Caring for none in favored mercy.
Helping not who it shows malice.

Pondering.. how life should show such malice to some and not others.. I believe it is sometimes our own doing but sometimes other things can add to that pain or joy.. I like the fact that you can feel both the heartache and love in the rain and remember each.. this is the balance that many feel.. a very realistic touch to this piece. Better to live .. than not lived at all.. even making mistakes! Thank you very much for sharing! =)

I was drawn to your poem by its title...the ebullience of youth and also its mishaps...i especially like the idea that it's not really a poem of regret, rather a celebration of the recklessness of being a free spirit...wonderful stuff...

I can almost hear the song inside this poem. It could be folk or even soul but I like its rythm and spirit. Thanks!
