Memory

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

What need have I for coins of Gold

"

Daughter Aris and I

The world has riches oh so rare

but shares them only with a few

What I love is worth so much more

         they are recollections of you

I need so few of this world's goods

having all your thoughts, ways and deeds

They lift my soul to the heavens

where I plant love's garden of seeds

Through your eyes I have seen wonders

so numerous I can't count

But oh such beauty none the less

before God I could not recount

What need have I for coins of gold

they can't buy what my eyes can see

My treasures lie within your smiles

stamped in the mint of memory

Dear Lord, this was so beautiful I swear it touched my soul. Every line is like a burst of overwhelming beauty the not only encourages but pushes and tugs at the reader to read on and crave more. Honestly, I was breathless by the end of it, my eyes were absorbed by each word as was the rest of being, reading this was an experience I wouldn't mind having a few hundred times more. Thank you for sharing.

You are a wise man. Your poem is both powerful and delicate; you understand what is truly valuable, you are a lucky man.

Your Children are lucky to have a dad like you, who loves them and sees so much in them.
It is truly a wonderful write, an insight to what the future can hold if your lucky enough.

. to live it, feel it and sense it ... is all that matters ... and it's sheer magic all the way ... they're beautiful and these verses that you write for them are invaluable ... whenever they turn back and revisit the past ... these are the moments that'll shine and fill their recollections with hope and bliss ... overwhelming memories ...

Beautiful! I don't know how many times I've said that regarding your poems. But you have a unique ability to convey your emotions without ever sounding melodramatic. Your poems are always sincere, and from the heart. I always feel compelled to comment upon your poems when I read them. I like all the lines here. I'm sorry for not offering any constructive criticism, because I can't think of any, unfortunately. This is a great poem.

I won't comment on the story behind the poem. The only thing that needs to be said is, that your kids are beautiful; as is the writing that accompanies them.

I will however, say that I felt the 2nd stanza was a little weak,
"I need so few of this worlds goods
having all your thoughts, ways and deeds
They lift my soul to the heavens
where I plant loves garden of seeds" - the "thoughts, ways and deeds" lacked force to propel the "soul to the heavens" in my opinion and the "deeds" - "seeds" rhyme felt a little forced to me.

"But oh such beauty none the less
before God I could not recount" - is truly one of a kind :D

Well done.
