Poetic Life

Poetic Life

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

It isn't how fast you can run.

"

As a child must learn to walk

before he attempts to run

So a poet owns the dark

long before he knows the sun

There's a shared fact to our lives

we poets all come to know

The quiet still of the cool night

that gives strength to mornings glow

It is just the way of things

that make us seem so far apart

To miss the heat or the cold

but touch workings of the heart

For whatever  the reason

we are here to make a choice

You see a child crying out

then have to give him a voice

Perhaps it's our fated lives

to give song to the cold din

But life’s a race we all share

and who cares if we don't win

It isn't how fast you run

nor how elegant you look

Think of those who took the time

to leave a mark in life’s book

Tate,,
I am not a poet, but you brought such depth and clarity to this piece. Sort of like a peek into the poets soul. Your verses are beautifully written and I enjoy each one you write. Thank you for sharing all of your lovely work with the world.

I love the way you expressed the heart of a poet. My favorite stanzas:

"Others can't always seem to know.
The pain of the life so free.
But my gifts hope they'll understand.
What life's waves wash over me.

There is a folksy charm to your work ... a plain talking voice that speaks from the heart and to the heart. It's didactic without being preachy and spoken with a sincere and gentle voice.

Very nice work.

I really liked this poem. The last stanza really spoke to me. =)

We all lead different lives, and are different people, but when speaking through poetry... we are all one in the same. We all have our very own lanuage, here, and we can understand each other... I think... better than those who can't write.

I loved this. Very well written. =)

I really liked this poem, reading made me feel as though all who enjoy poetry as much as I do are all not the same but similar. As though we all understand eachother more than others ever could because our lives have taken similar paths. I like thinking that my thoughts and feelings may be shared by those who I have a common interest with. So, thank you for writing this, it is very good.

You will certainly leave your mark in the poetic book of life. To give rhyme to the causes of the world and rythmn to the the notes of love. Every poet knows of the darkness that decends on mankind and of which it needs to speak. They also can tell you of love happily found and sadly lost. The pain of just living and dying. Many have lived what they wrote and others are just very good at observing human nature and the world around them. Some are more gifted and start out victoriously running the 100 yard dash. Others start at a slow crawl, but that does not mean they have done one thing wrong. A work with words is to the ear, as a painting to the eye. The same thing will not appeal to everyone and that does not
devalue it in any way. A simple six verse poem may speak volumes over thirty verses of rambling. You form and style is one to be admired and hopefully will continue to grace us with its presence for a long time to come.
