Life's Treasures

Life's Treasures

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Can anyone know what will come when the wind blows us cold and gale Or what direction it be from when finally we set our sail

"

The old songs loved from long ago

come to me from my long gone past

On winds they caress me tonight

whispering from dreams I had last

The old days trooped by in glory

paraded across my life's field

Displayed in panoramic view

how many dreams they have revealed

Faces long gone look out from mist

to this once wandered man to be

Speaking from my past adventures

beloved friends long a part of me

Oh how they flood through my mind

to speak of days that've gone by

Forcing me to look to the one

that came from acts I can't deny

We are not each one right nor wrong

we are the result of our times

Held to account for all the good

as well as for all our crimes

Mystic chords of my memory

look back on the road I traversed

Remembering moments I loved

as well as those I have cursed

While each loved soul has given time

to pursuit of living pleasures

Only by reflecting on life

do I recognize its treasures

*********************************************************************** Life & Times **************
For me, this work brought to mind and held shades of classicism, an influence, such as: F. Scott Fitzgerald, writing in a life as 'Victor Laszlo'
in the setting of the ambience of Cassablanca. As the picture here evokes such a character image, or possibley The African Queen the film with Humphrey Bogart... a portrayal, of such a character. These imagined and invoked, yet knowing. It is as original, as Tate Morgan and his life & times.
A life story, no not novelized or told of in other. Than Life's Tree.
As it is lived, through a Poets Eyes.
Immortalized, in scripted...
Excellance.
This piece reflects the depths of a painters image, on a canvas of words.
As it plays like a movie, through the readers mind. Enough said.
A Classical Portrayal, of A Man.
Striving...
For that perfect edge.

There are so many incidents taking place each day in our lives. But in such few words you have described your life so well. What 1000 pages of autobiographies can't reveal ,you have said it all using such beautiful metaphors.

There is little that can describe the feelings invoked upon hearing old tunes once beloved... sang by one's grandparents with such looks of fondness upon their faces that even in a listening child a strong emotion was formed. You have managed to capture what portion of this a human is able.

A very introspective piece as well, reproaching yourself for past mistakes
and memories of the good times~ very nicely expressed and well penned

Good job on this one Tate!

Very well done! And I am glad you used no punctuation, which really isn't needed in this poem. Only one comment:
your line: To speak of the days they've gone by
should read, I think, To speak of the days that've gone by

Your first stanza is not only captivating, but amazing examples of imagery and some personification. "We are the result of our times/ Held to account for all the good/ As well as for all our crimes." A wonderful and truthful statement put in 3 beautiful lines. The next stanza is great as well. You use great end rhymes that work really well with each other. (A small suggestion: instead of I have, I've?) in both lines. Your last stanza is extremely powerful. It really captures and summarizes your whole poem. This was a wonderful read and surely well written.

People have told me live in the now and don't think about the past but how do we learn from our mistakes and take refuge in the memories. This is a great piece that reflects on lifes journey. Thanks for sharing. =)

Really a great piece! Your last two lines are so true, so profound, and so unfortunate as well. We miss so much, good and bad, when we're "in the moment," so to speak, but that is just the way it goes. I love the way you start this off referencing "old songs loved." It really puts the whole write into a different realm other than just words to read. Very well done.

A beautifully introspective, reflective write.. taking us over time and life's lessons. Your words create such a depth of feeling and wonder... So well done!

Your entire poem rings true but this verse does it for me: 'While each loved soul has given time To pursuit of living pleasures Only by reflecting on life Do I recognize its treasures'. That implies to me that you've learned from the not so -good times, but realise that so much and so many people are worth holding on to, remembering the best of your days together.

Your words are often quite sad - as you say, retrospective - which is never a bad thing, but the present can carry us into wonderfully bright times.

The meter in this holds true virtually all the way through, your words are heart -touching.

What becomes of the broken-hearted? .. So many cope, so many recover .. that's what life's all about .. else it's wasted
