My Sunshine

My Sunshine

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

I awoke de-ar, one night from dream-ing found twenty ye-ars, had slipped me b-y All that ti-me, I'd been for-saken with each gray ha-ir, there came a si-gh

"

My granddaughter Payton last week on the deck.
These are all 24' by 18" canvases done in graphite pencil. I drew this picture last week after playing with her.

When a young ma-n, you were a twin-kle

within the e-ye, of a dream one da-y

I laughed each ti-me, I thought of yo-u

wondering just wha-t, you might sa-y

I awoke de-ar, one night from dream-ing

found twenty ye-ars, had slipped me b-y

All that ti-me, I'd felt for-saken

each new gray ha-ir, there came a si-gh

Just one look de-ar, was all I nee-ded

to know you we-re, the girl I sa-w

The dream I wo-uld, always trea-sure

with the fir-st, of your words Pa-pa

The night no lo-nger, haunts m-e

with dreams of what ma-y, not come tru-e

Now each da-y, a new ad-venture

since life li-t, my world with yo-u

Tate Morgan
To Payton
I wish you a long and happy life. And may your first words be Papa Tate.

I think I broke every rule with this one lol
I was playing with my granddaughter last week on the deck and could swear she said "Papa".That was all it took for me I was hooked. I'm so easy lol

Set to the melody of You Are My Sunshine, the piece is to be sung to the melody. Hence the hyphens and pauses

This is absolutely beautiful Tate, it melted my heart. It really brings me back to when I was little, how wonderful everything was. I can even remember my mother singing this song to me before bed or when I was scared.
Thank you for sharing this piece and thank you for bringing back such precious memories.

The love and affection in this write is powerful. You have such hopes and dreams for little Payton. One day she will cherish this drawing and poem. Playing with a grandchild is pure enchantment...you captured that with your words. Lydi**

Beautiful..like the lady said. This was my mother and dad's favorite song incidently. The words, "You Are My Sunshine" are engraved on their headstone.

I saw my granddaughter graduate from Texas state University this last weekend. She writes; like me, I think she writes better. She is simply amazing. I as well have a grandson who just achieved the Deans Scholarship at St. Johns University in Austin Texas, he will start in the fall, not that I'm bragging or anything. They use to crawl up in my lap when they were little and say read to us poppy. If I read " The Three Bears" once I read it Ten Thousand times, and If I missed a word that wasn't in the book, I heard about it from them both. Your poem brought all that back..... Thank you so much sir, It sounds as if we are both very very fortunate men. Thank you so much for a wonderful read, and as well for sharing .
