My Sunshine

My Sunshine

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

I awoke de-ar, one night from dream-ing found twenty ye-ars, had slipped me b-y All that ti-me, I'd been for-saken with each gray ha-ir, there came a si-gh

"

My granddaughter Payton last week on the deck.
These are all 24' by 18" canvases done in graphite pencil. I drew this picture last week after playing with her.

When a young ma-n, you were a twin-kle

within the e-ye, of a dream one da-y

I laughed each ti-me, I thought of yo-u

wondering just wha-t, you might sa-y

I awoke de-ar, one night from dream-ing

found twenty ye-ars, had slipped me b-y

All that ti-me, I'd felt for-saken

each new gray ha-ir, there came a si-gh

Just one look de-ar, was all I nee-ded

to know you we-re, the girl I sa-w

The dream I wo-uld, always trea-sure

with the fir-st, of your words Pa-pa

The night no lo-nger, haunts m-e

with dreams of what ma-y, not come tru-e

Now each da-y, a new ad-venture

since life li-t, my world with yo-u

To Payton
I wish you a long and happy life. And may your first words be Papa Tate.

I think I broke every rule with this one lol
I was playing with my granddaughter last week on the deck and could swear she said "Papa".That was all it took for me I was hooked. I'm so easy lol

Set to the melody of You Are My Sunshine, the piece is to be sung to the melody. Hence the hyphens and pauses

This is absolutely beautiful Tate, it melted my heart. It really brings me back to when I was little, how wonderful everything was. I can even remember my mother singing this song to me before bed or when I was scared.
Thank you for sharing this piece and thank you for bringing back such precious memories.

I'll admit to not getting past the music backround. It was the song I sang to my dog as I put her to sleep, as I watched the light dim to just gray cold empty eyes. We have a connection that is deeper than even we can comprehend at times...Beautiful flow of scences...welll done :)

Aww, this is so sweet and so tender. It reminds me of the connection I had with my grandpa when I was very small. I hope you and your granddaughter are always close and never lose that special connection. Well written, Tate! You brought tears to my eyes.

Awww I know how you feel! I have a Grandson who will be 1 year old this weekend, he's the cutest little guy in my world, and when he smiles at me I melt inside. Beautiful drawing and poem, and I sung my way through it, too!

Tate, you bring back memories. My older daughter loved this song when she was little and I sang it to her time after time. And I called my father Papa. Lovely, lovely poem.

Great stuff as always my friend. the "l-onger" threw me off. At first i thought of suggesting "lo-nger" or "lo-onger" but maybe it needs to be the way it is. Question: if read aloud, would you do so with emphasis on the breaks/stops? Or is this just for visuals?

Lovely picture, lovely words. A very sweet and personalized tribute of legacy for your granddaughter.

Wow this is so intense and beautiful. Though depression is not as beautiful you still expressed yourself in such a beautiful way. But that picture you drew of your granddaughter spoke a thousand words to your heart.

There is such a joy in the life of a child, and like nothing else they fill us with hope and love and all things good. Your words, your song here, soars us all into the heavens.
