The Stranger

The Stranger

A Poem by Amila Jay
"

A poem about a stranger..

"
It was cold outside
With mist on all sides
When a galloping was heard
From the west of the hillside
The wind was howling into the night
He got down from his horse
And forced his way by
There was a small brown cottage
With a dimly lit lamp inside
He knocked on the hard door
With a timid knock
Not hard enough to hear
And waited for sometime
His heavy breath lapsing against life
The dimly lit lamp went off in a while
He thought to himself and went past by
And the stranger went on till early morn
Before he died

Very nicely done, especially for being in the 9th grade when you're (in some places) just learning poetry. Keep it up!

Such an epic tale in such consise format...starts off so graphically I was moved by the eeriness of the opening phrases... Thanks

This evokes a scene which cld be from a Thomas Hardy novel. It is all there. Romance, tragedy, death. You were wide awake in grade 9!

What I like to do with old poetry...is try rewriting it. Keep the original...you never want to delete the original...keep the the essence of it near. But with your current writing abilities...see what you can do with it. I see a lot of potential here for you to recreate another masterpiece. :)

This is fascinating. It has a quality in the depth and uniqueness of the story. The message and theme is well delivered and it is tight as poetic verse. Great job.
