A Story by Luna
"

Some people find material goods too important. This shows those people to the extreme.

"

“Welcome to grief counseling. Each of you are here because you have been going through tough times. Who wants to start?”

“I will. I am Marie. Recently, I lost my car, my house, my dog, everything. I have nothing but the clothes on my back and this group.”

“Well, I must say you are worse off than me. I am Mildred and I just lost my car. The repo people came and took it, saying I didn’t pay for it.”

                “What about you?”

“I’m Laurel. I lost my mother and baby sister in a car accident. I was also raped. I was on a gypsy caravan when it happened. A man came up to me, held a knife to my throat and said that if I scream my head is his. I couldn’t do anything. I didn’t have the right to. Then, when I came to America, my mother and baby sister were killed by a drunk driver.”

“Oh, well that is bad. But I don’t think it is as bad as Marie’s. I mean, you can always find a new family and rape is nothing.”

This made me think of something I heard long ago: "I cried because I had no shoes, but then I met a man who had no feet." Happiness is relative. The grief counselor in this case is clearly in the wrong line of work. Very good writing, Luna.

This piece left me feeling saddened and amused all at the same time, a lovely exaggeration of the way that humanity often comes across. Thanks for sharing. I wasnt expecting this at all.
