Sunny Disease

Sunny Disease

A Poem by Briana O'Connor
"

A negative take on Summer-No I do not dislike this particular season. This is just something that wheeled around in my brain so I put it to paper. :D

"

Sweltering calidity,

Reflection of sun.

Drawing in closer,

Scorching the flesh.

Rising in temperature...

Blacktops… they simmer.

Footsies of young ones,

Blistering at touch.

Demon of Summer,

Star of the day...

Mirroring off irises,

Obscuring the vision.

Short lived beauty ,

Heat grasping throat.

Paralyzing playtime,

Running for air.

Summertime....

Such a glorious sound.

But alas...

Masses be deceived.

This Season…

It is, but a disease.

You gave Summer a bad name. I do dislike heat. Michigan heat ain't so bad. I have lived in the Middle East and Texas/Georgia. Can cook a egg on the hot ground in the middle of Summer. I liked the poem. Honest and direct tone in the words. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome.
I'm not one to dislike the summer season either, but I get tired of it after a short while. There's only so much hot weather I can take. I can understand how many love summer because of the heat and being able to go outdoors a lot. I'm an outdoorsy person as well and love to enjoy the weather, just too much hot wears me out and makes me cranky. Even for a young person, it has it's effects on me.

refreshing take on the sweltering demon ... i grew up in upstate NY and those 90 degree days with humidity off the charts were killers .. we use to pop tar blisters in the road on those days .. i can still smell the black top .. not to mention cancer rays from space ;)

Only in a sense, here in Pennsylvania, of bugs, ticks and humidity. When they dance with a 66 year old man I tend to never find the rhythm. Thanks Briana!

lmao thanks for reading
Haha, this was quite dramatic. You've had some fun with the words and have surely brought out a hot picture of what summer could be at it's worst. Specially loved the 5th stanza. Tiny little enjoyable piece!

A memory of summer ... and the real thing ... in these times can be different. Its the nature of the person experiencing it. Makes us wonder who we were before?
