I look at the Mirror

I look at the Mirror

A Poem by Azure Montessa (Blue)
"

I see her...

"

I look at the mirror and there I see
a very young woman smiling back at me.
With dark brown eyes, mysterious and deep,
she hides her monsters with secrets to keep.

I look at the mirror and there I see
the flaws on her face in morbid scrutiny.
She believes her lie--she's nothing but a beast,
with her heart intact to stay human at least.

I look at the mirror and there I see
someone with a name but without identity.
She used to be sure, now she's lost in her way
with nowhere to go, not even a place to stay.

I look at the mirror and there I see
the greatest of failures in world history.
With sins and mistakes all piled up so high
will one fervent prayer grant her mercy to die?

I look at the mirror and there I see
a shattered soul in poignant poetry.
Adorned with applause, hailed as divine
I pity the girl in her miserable shrine.

A great man once said " we are fearfully and wonderfully made" . I cant deny that I have experienced these thought processes but thank God for that Great MAN..

How we perceive ourselves can out way the truth. It's an unfortunate thing that we do some times.

Well written

your welcome hun :)
We never really see Truth, but rather Perception, and we are our own harshest critic... This is a poignant and well-written piece, Blue.

Thank you, Rita.
Mirrors can be cruel and distort the true you...distort perception...perception is individual and can sting at times...this really moved me...perhaps if we are kind to ourselves the reflection would smile back :) x

Thank you, Doug. Have a great New Year, too!
We are very much our own worst credits. Detailed analysis about the simple act of looking at one's reflection and accurate description of how deep scrutinizing oneself can become.

True. Thank you, Cher.
We humans, women more so then men, are our worst critics. Very eloquent write, and a little sad. Reminds me of this video: http://www.elephantjournal.com/2013/04/sketch-artist-draws-women-how-they-describe-themselves-vs-how-they-are-described-by-others-illustrations/
