Tattered Remains

Tattered Remains

A Poem by Ashley Lytle

Hear me scream
Hear me dream
To the heavens up above
For something isn't right down here
In this land of poverty
Filled with hatred and lies

Where I am lost among the rules
And it's a struggle every day
For this ain't some one time thing

Listen to my screams
Listen to my crushed dreams
For something isn't right
When it becomes a struggle to survive
And no one leaves in one piece

Where happiness is being covered
With murder and hatred
Where music heals a soul
But evil steals it away
Where stories are an escape
That is until they come

So tell me once again
Why hearing my screams
Means but nothing
Why the tattered remains
Of who I was
Of the dreams I once sought after
Are so easy to ignore

Let's add someone else's to the pile
But still it shall remain unnoticed
Until maybe it grows tall enough
That you just can't ignore it any more
And you are added to the mix
Along with countless of others

But by then it will be too late
And we'll all be buried
Among our tattered remains
Wishing we had just listened
To someone's screams
As their dreams faded away
