Off She Goes

Off She Goes

A Poem by Ashesh
"

Wrote this poem on my mobile while I was in airport to see off my sister.

"

Off She Goes ...

Off she goes following her dreams

She goes to the misty world unknown

Trembling and scared she goes

She goes for the life she chose

Off she goes with her love supreme

She goes she has heard the distant beats

With bitter-sweet tears in her eyes she goes

She goes, she says goodbye to all.

In addition to a general tone of sadness this poem also seems to have an element of irony to it. The very title, 'off she goes' is one of those sayings we hear when someone perhaps wants to draw attention to the actions of a third party and mock them. This is perhaps a negative interpretation of what was actually meant but it's the way it has struck me.

In addition to the element of irony and sadness this poem provokes images of the sacrifices we might make in order to pursue our dreams. In this case the muse is still leaving despite going, 'trembling and scared' and with 'bitter-sweet tears in her eyes'. This sums up the many times in life when the path we must follow leads us away from what we hold dear. In this case there is the suggestion that she is actually losing everybody close to her as she, 'says goodbye to all'.

Structurally this poem is very simple but this reflects the efficiency with which the message is delivered.

I enjoyed reading this poem because of the irony I detected. It's an uncommon element in the poetry I've read so far and a refreshing one at that.

Bittersweet, indeed. It’s normal to feel sad about saying goodbye to someone important even though you know it’s for her own good. This poem seems to be one of those spur of the moment writing where emotions really matter more than the actual structure. I find the “goes” part unnecessarily redundant but I guess given the moment, the repetition is just a way to sort of imbue the thought in one’s head until it sinks in and acceptance comes.

Keep Writing. ^___^
