empathy

Every aching bone in my heart

moans and withers

trying to escape the discomfort

hates the coating of depression

and begs to speak

demanding why must we be so full of empathy

that we should suffer

the loneliness 

and the hopelessness

of another persons pained soul

and screams

that I cannot mourn for your broken soul

for ours is broken too

and begs

not to loose myself in your tired eyes

because my heart knows the truth

I might never find my way out 

and in time, looses all sense of meaning

purpose

and hope

though I cannot comfort my own

when your is the one that hurts me most

You write with clarity and deep emotion. I like "I cannot mourn for your broken soul" and agree with the premise that "empathy" is a burden we need not bear at times, because our own "plates" are so full. I wonder about the final line - should it be "yours"? I enjoyed reading your writing :) Penny
