Bhagirathi - Who will bring her back

Bhagirathi - Who will bring her back

In times forgotten
Sagara was the mightiest King
to prove he did yagya called ashwamedha
he released the horse to claim all lands
nobody would stop him or they'd lose their hands
until it was stolen by Indra, the deciever
Sagara was furious looking for its captor
he called a thousand sons to ravage every corner
forests were chopped, mountains raised
lands made barren, no animals nor rain
the carnage went on 'til the last drop was gone
but they met their fate, turned to ashes
souls in flames by a Saint not allowed to meditate
everything dried, tears not come when children cried
death was the only home
Bhagirath knew the sins of his Fathers
penanced them to Brahma, the Creator
"Only Ganga, river from heaven
can save the earthern
but earth is weak
Shiva's help you should seek"
so Shiva asked her to fall on his head and closed his locks
she feel slow, flowed to mountains and rocks
bringing life
seeds and saplings
quenching the living
redeeming the dead
he called her Bhagirathi, they say
human greed has made her diseased
chances of suvival are bleak
now whose help should we seek?
