Waning Crescent

Waning Crescent

A Poem by barleygirl
"

my Christmas prayer . . .

"

Beyond the solstice there’s a wispy waning crescent
with backlit tangled limbs of despair arborescent
it blights a faint memory of hope incandescent
lately rage and bloodshed do resonate incessant.

Halfhearted soul searching beside my crackling fire
flaming hot brightness stokes my burgeoning desire
it’s painful to watch our world sinking in quagmire
tweeting nonstop potshots lacking words to inspire.

Hocking fear and division disguised as future plans
we can take this situation into our own hands
let’s not be defined by someone’s fiery selfish brands
we’ll spread peace and understanding all across our lands.

Before we respond in kind to folly that we see
remember the words of St. Francis of Assisi
believe in the difference we can all make gradually
as we each illuminate a peaceful legacy.

Peace Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

What we do for ourselves ends with us, and the things we do for others becomes our legacy. Life can be very hard no doubt but it is possible to tackle the hardships with kindness, faith and hope. This world needs love, hope and faith every single day and the best thing to remember is that God will never let the evil take over the good in this world as long as He is in charge of everything... This is prayer you sent to me in my mailbox isn't it?

So refreshing and truly shows your faith in hope and possibilities of life...
((Hugs)) as long we have hope and kindness we will rise again...

Sincerely
Dhiman

This is one of your best I must confess the pray of St Francis Got close to my Breast my heart pounded in my chest as I read the pray and rejoiced in its powerful meanings a revealing sight my eyes were reviewing the works of St Francis his life I must confess was a work of art he had a great heart and used to for the good of all who knew him and love who he had become and now he is revered in Saint hood for all minds who wonder what a great life her must of had Loved by the masses he had his calling out from God above and he has spread his great love.

this is my favourite prayer -- you have so beautifully personalized and breathed new life into this. It leaves me, hopeful, with a sigh.

This is lovely. I felt a sense of reflection and resolve. I was able to follow your low and high as I read. Loved the form as well. It makes me think about my own legacy and resolve about using my voice in writing to stand up to the chaos that is brewing due to our president elect. I also love this prayer.

Brilliant. So matter how many times the world seems to knock us down, it's important to get back up. It's truly inspiring, imagining that our everyday, simple acts can make a difference in this dark, scary, corrupt world.

Your quate of St.Francis' prayer was excellent, as was your poem. I am reminded of the Serenity Prayer.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

Sadly, the world seems to be falling into chaos, which is controlled by money and greed.
Your poem reflects the sense of impotence and anger that we can allow ourselves to fall into, but at the same time offers a more rational approach toward a possible solution. The foundations of conscience have always been there, but the building blocks still need to be assembled .
Your quiet poem speaks volumes. (((Hugs)))

Barley girl Hi. It has to be right. It has to be that the cumulative impact of good deeds, kindness, and positive role-modelling can ultimately win the day, be it through parenting, neighbourly citizenship, school teachers, sportsmanship amongst highly-paid professionals (... well, we may have a longer wait for that ...). Loudmouthed louts will shout down such demurring a hundred times, but one has to hope for eventual light at the end of the tunnel. And it's not about being passive.

Anyway, as for the poem itself, I enjoyed it very much. It has some lovely language; the potshots as somebody else said. And also a reminder of Dylan Thomas 'do not go gentle into that good night' and raging against the dying of the light. Very nice job. Heartfelt, sad, beautifully written.

we can all make a difference in a good way...although right now...your words ring so true..."tweeting non-stop potshots"

that will not make a difference in a good way, but bring more derision and division..

this might really be a time to "turn the other cheek"
instead of fueling the fire of hate.
