Ecstasy Ever After

Ecstasy Ever After

A Poem by barleygirl
"

nearby areas I've hiked . . .

"

Remember camping at Escondido
on our backpacking trip to Lost Valley
I wanted to hike
muy rapido
but you insisted we dilly-dally.

Wading across the Arroyo Seco
we peeled our threads to leisurely sun dry
as you scaled boulders chasing a gecko
there was no way I could turn a blind eye.

After steep switchbacks up to the ridge top
an artesian spring filled a sparkling pool
digging out our snacks to take a lunch stop
it wasn’t salametti making me drool.

Finally we reached our destination
giggling and rolling as we pitched our tent
your sleeping bag sprawl beckoned fellation
so we frolicked until we both were spent.

Ending our trek with mutual massage
two can’t reach a more sublime ecstasy
but we gazed upon a baffling mirage
compelling us to explore zestfully.

Trees adorned in coral cotton candy
the midday sky a collage of roses
a nearby creek flowed briskly with brandy
birds and bunnies struck outlandish poses.

There was no inkling for us to return
to the world we had previously known
so we floated through fields of fanciful fern
and resigned ourselves to being mind-blown.

Escondido camp, Lost Valley, & the headwaters of the Arroyo Seco river (photo) are some of my favorite places to hike in the nearby wilderness . . .

they didn't teach those camping techniques in cub scouts ... thanks for sharing barleygirl! delightful hike up the trails ;) Escondido and Arroyo Seco sparked long distant memory .. i did hitch up and down Cal. more than once back in the 60's but that didn't seem the place ..so I googled NM and voila' .. I lived just outside of Taos for a spell back then .. the playful honesty of your poem is intoxicating .. going to look for that sleeping bag now ;)

Mountains, woods, and water, it doesn't get much better than that, except for the little added options.
Sounds like a fun trip.

Hi barleygirl; I'm surfing WC and landed here - what a nice place to land. This trip down memory lane of a long hike effortlessly achieved - so effortless you had the energy to fantasise and become 'interested'. And in those first few verses there is also a love of the area itself - it must be beautiful. Then we have sprawling lovers beckoning and lots of 'frolicking' - the sense of fun, joy, just seeps through. Then the final couple of para's took me to John Lennon's cellophane flowers of yellow and green towering over your head. That's not somewhere I ever went because I never smoked and so the only time I was ever offered a joint I choked on it and quickly passed it on. Thanks for this poem bg - it sort of makes me want to dig out Easy Rider and watch it again.
Best
Nigel

Mind-blown?? Giggling here....you are a naughty girl, Margie! The imagery is stunning, the rhyming is flawless, and the playful sexuality is just right. Again, you CAN write sensual poetry, lady! Lydi**

Some of your favourite places to hike. I love hiking, too, especially the kind that "beckons fellatio" -- my word I love that line ... :)

See, you want to rush about everywhere. You have to take it easy on the hike. Beer stop, now that's a must. Is there a Mcdonalds near by. How long should frolicking last. But most of all. Will we do it next week too.

Without being too suggestive, Margie, I'm surprised you had the energy to continue exploring the wilderness.
Seriously though, your amusing description of those trips makes me yearn for my younger days when I would spend many week long hikes around the British Isles. I hope your indomitable spirit allows you to get back to walking for pleasure again.
