Agree to Disagree

A Poem by barleygirl
"

thanks emmajoy for the inspiration

"

Some are scorched painful red by father sun
others crave his warmth to soothe away pain.

Some keep their doors shut to wide open spaces
but others can only come alive under spacious skies.

Some are frightfully haunted under the full moonlight
or grandmother moon inspires dancing all night long.

Some freak out thinking about the spread of germs
and mother earth beckons others to get down and dirty.

Some constrain beauty into concrete-lined flowerbeds
others seek the allure of desolate overgrown wilderness.

Some are intolerant if not measuring up to perfection
while others spend a lifetime striving for self-acceptance.

Some live to amass fortunes and collect possessions
others give their last dollars to help someone less fortunate.

Some seek the repeated titillation of thrills and risk
others share time helping a loved one ease anxiety.

Some would leap at the chance for a hug and kiss
the stress of physical contact is too intense for others.

Some pray to their best friend with bloody palms
while others worship the needle stabbing an arm.

Some think those who don’t agree are wrong
others continually try on different viewpoints.

Some read to pick out what’s wrong with this writing
others read to discover what they might not know.

I think this was a beautifully written poem. Something that needs to be shared with the world especially in today's time where everyone has suddenly become so intolerant to other peoples opinions, views and beliefs. Recently i wrote an article on the theme you're portraying here. I agree and i feel a good connection to your poem. People need to accept differences and diversities and respect one another and i think your poem brought that aspect out beautifully. Loved it !!

This is a lovely celebration of diversity in lifestyles and personalities. I like how you touch on all these different ways that people live their lives, and you don't condemn any for being better or worse than the others.

Very true, Margie! This is how diverse we all are! If only We learn to accept and respect views and styles of living and expression of others, we can bring harmony and peace in this world.
What grabbed me is the way is the theme you chose to bring out your message so delicately and subtly. But bang on, you make your point in the end. Very elegantly presented!
Thank you for sharing..

If only the world would accept the fact that we are all different. That in our differences we are of value and deserve to be respected of our opinions. Each of us has something of value to contribute to the good of the whole.
Not unlike a huge tiled mosaic in which each individual piece is a variety of colors. Yet when used with thousands of others gives birth to a fabulous picture.

The diversity of human nature does indeed cover a vast spectrum of emotions, traits, peculiarities and idiosyncrasies, sad thing is, many become so embroiled in the own belief and self-worth, that they fail to see the bigger and greater picture...An open mind is rational one!

Cerebrally penned in fine presentation and with empathy and of-course...An open mind !

I love this. There are particular lines that really stand out for me personally. "Some are intolerant if not measuring up to perfection
while others spend a lifetime striving for self-acceptance." I have tried to strive for self-acceptance my whole entire life. I have never quite hit the mark. "others share time helping a loved one ease anxiety." I suffer from severe anxiety, so I tend to try and help others who suffer from it too. "Some live to amass fortunes and collect possessions
others give their last dollars to help someone less fortunate. I believe in helping those less fortunate. I have been helped when I was down on my luck, and I try to pay it forward by doing the same. My favorite quote is by Ethel Percy Andrus: "The human contribution is the essential ingredient. It is only in the giving of oneself to others that we truly live." That hits the nail on the head. Mankind has to live on this earth together. I don't understand why it is so hard to coexist. Your poem brings this out beautifully. Accolades to you for a piece well written.

We all bleed red, but where the blood flows depends on where we stand in life... we all have our differences but that doesn't mean we can't get along.
