Dogwood Nostalgia

Dogwood Nostalgia

A Poem by barleygirl
"

dogwood blooming on my ridges . . .

"

Remember the dawn of the dogwood bloom
when lupines laughed a lavender plume
feathery flutters and springtime sounds
lured us to the river where splashing abounds.

Sharp chaparral was surely smitten
fur tickles making me purr like a kitten
thinking you’d be my trustworthy pup
fetching bouquets of wild buttercup.

So sure dogwood days could never end
your disappearance a void I cannot mend
still here burning a pungent sage torch
longing for days our passion to scorch.

Nowadays I imagine you still being here
dogwood nostalgia stretches far I fear
my memories are cloaked in morning mist
dreaming of when I was once well-kissed.

This isn't about any particular person, but the dogwood trees blooming on the nearby wilderness ridges just prompted my nostalgia about the good ole days . . .

It is nice when something takes us into a series of memories. When something is so evocative.
I could list the things that do it for me. That create the atmosphere but I won't given that you have done the job so well here and taken me, your reader back with you to my own spaces.

I once saw you in those dogwoods making me merry with your sweet tender words. I cajoled you to join me but you loved your Dogwood more.

What a boundless beauty rises in your words, these glimpses across time, and feeling them refreshed in the new blossoming places. Brought back memories of when my family would camp or hike in Yosemite, and just breathe in the refreshing air of glory.

Luscious and lyrical writing here, Margie There's something about dogwood trees with their dramatic foliage changes, which prompted me to write "The Dogwood in Autumn", so I can understand how it stimulates colourful memories and , dare I say it, flamboyant images. (((Hugs)))
