Purely Accidental

Purely Accidental

I have to admit I’m addicted to rhyme
best served up with coconut and lime
unstructured rhyming is never a crime
notably tangled in parsley and thyme.

Eighteen months ago I found the Café
friends galore from London to Bombay
my comments often a harsh donkey bray
but new friends led me to a gentler way.

Little by little I loosened my grip
letting the cosmos guide my spaceship
about abstract jargon I no longer trip
just serve me a t**d on a tortilla chip.

Recently I've been reviewed by a fiend
my words all wrong, my clock is cleaned
from finicky fussing I’ve been weaned
nebulous nonsense is now unscreened.

YumnaKay warns: “experimental”
I’m taking her lead with lentils and fennel
now my writing’s “purely accidental”
just go away if you must be judgmental!

Author's Note

barleygirl
The genesis of this poem was sparked by such elusive writers as Einstein Noodle, Jacob & Emmajoy. Of course, I always smile when I see "experimental" on most of YumnaKay's pieces. And most recently Tony Jordan helped me arrive at the phrase "purely accidental" . . . thanks to these & many more inspiring writers on this website . . . helping me transform from a rigid technical writer of 30+ years! *smile* (((HUGS)))

I've often wondered if the technical purists get out of writing poetry what the amateur does. At what stage does technicality become the be all and end all.
Of course there's a time and place for all things...
Thank you very much for mentioning me BG. Inspiration abounds here on the WC.
Nicely done
(hugs)

Yay! Poetry just "IS" whatever the poet makes it! Your poetry lifts the heart and makes me *smile*. Your structure, cadence, rhyme are always perfect. This poem is so heart-warmingly gracious and a tribute to several great poets on the site. Margie, You are a shining example of how we laugh at ourselves, learn and grow from reading each other's work and appreciate everyone in their own "write"! Liberating! Brava! And Many (((HUGS)))!

Ah, such a place to show honor and gratitude, this piece was very moving, the flavor and senses all packed in a page. Hopefully one day I am deemed worthy enough to be among those writers. They are all very good

Did the write feel right? If so, forget the classification. Ignore the criticism. Say what you want to say in the manner you choose.
Writing should give something back to you, if even for a passing moment.

I did go off a bit, didn't I? Sorry, I couldn't help myself!
Writing on a whim can still produce a meaningful piece of work and the joie de vivre of this piece proves it. The only "accidental" part that I totally disagree with, however, is your culinary reference at the end of the third stanza. Surely, this not " poetic food for thought" Margie, it is medically known as " pica". **snort**

Glad to see you smiling! It is a Friday, a joyful, poetic day worth celebrating. :)
When I first started writing poetry...when I was twelve....I thought all poetry had to rhyme. Then I was introduced to free verse and other forms. I do rhyme at times. It comes easily to me. However, I prefer my non-rhyming poetry. Your poetry always makes me smile...and it is well written even if accidental! :) Lydi**

My pleasure, Margie!
Wow! Wow! Wow!❤😊

This is such a fine piece, with wonderful usage of rhyming...I love poems that rhyme this well!
The poem has simple use of words, but the rhyming was great! Seems I should learn this rhyming thing from you 😉😉

Also, the poem included a little flavour of herbs too(parsley, thyme etc.) That made me smile and I read it twice *smile*

Thankyou for sharing such a wonderful piece, it is one of the best pieces of yours that I've read this far😊
