Purely Accidental

Purely Accidental

I have to admit I’m addicted to rhyme
best served up with coconut and lime
unstructured rhyming is never a crime
notably tangled in parsley and thyme.

Eighteen months ago I found the Café
friends galore from London to Bombay
my comments often a harsh donkey bray
but new friends led me to a gentler way.

Little by little I loosened my grip
letting the cosmos guide my spaceship
about abstract jargon I no longer trip
just serve me a t**d on a tortilla chip.

Recently I've been reviewed by a fiend
my words all wrong, my clock is cleaned
from finicky fussing I’ve been weaned
nebulous nonsense is now unscreened.

YumnaKay warns: “experimental”
I’m taking her lead with lentils and fennel
now my writing’s “purely accidental”
just go away if you must be judgmental!

Author's Note

barleygirl
The genesis of this poem was sparked by such elusive writers as Einstein Noodle, Jacob & Emmajoy. Of course, I always smile when I see "experimental" on most of YumnaKay's pieces. And most recently Tony Jordan helped me arrive at the phrase "purely accidental" . . . thanks to these & many more inspiring writers on this website . . . helping me transform from a rigid technical writer of 30+ years! *smile* (((HUGS)))

I've often wondered if the technical purists get out of writing poetry what the amateur does. At what stage does technicality become the be all and end all.
Of course there's a time and place for all things...
Thank you very much for mentioning me BG. Inspiration abounds here on the WC.
Nicely done

Gee
I arrived 3+ years ago tentatively posting my simple offerings, wondering as to the reception they would receive. I've been amazed that people have read, some liked and reviewed, but most importantly given gentle advice, nudging me in directions I would have never thought to go. I too am grateful to all that have helped with my scribblings.
A fine piece Miss B

Have had ZERO time lately for WC, but I could not resist reading this one, Barley... Utterly fantastic use of rhyme... You were not kidding when you said rhyming was your favorite... The wordplay and syllable technicality of your flow is top-notch... I just HAD to say something, and that something is this is amazing, heh... Masterfully penned...

I've always been a fan of your rhyming skills and the constructive reviews you give here to amateurs like me so it's indeed humbling that you mentioned me here. Thank you for that (:
I too have found this place to be inspiring and as for the judging ones, I'd say, to hell with 'em lol :p

this is a fun poke at those who would harshly judge---not realizing how much discouragement can be caused by that...this is not Penwrights or Elite poetry .com....this is WC...gentleness but honesty...
love it.

It would be a far less colourful world if all writing was vanilla. I started writing 22years ago and wouldn't be writing still, if I didn't have the input from reading all the flavours we have on places like the cafe. we need all the flavours...(apart from the McNasties who deride others, if you can't find beauty in writing, they are in the wrong place...and nowhere near as talented as they think)
Go where the pen takes ya, is my advice.
Well said BG

I must say I love rhyming too, though not good at it. I love your impeccable rhyming. The t**d on the tortilla chip startled me and then I fell off laughing! Great humor, great writing!
