Gone Agnostic

Gone Agnostic

A Poem by barleygirl
"

such is life . . .

"

Lately I’ve decided to declare myself agnostic
self-righteous blisterings have gotten way too caustic
lacking proper quotes my words are apparently suspect
worse yet I sometimes pay homage to the joy of sex.

Clearly I don’t measure up and I’m way too old to purify
blurting lighthearted nonsense is now cause to crucify
from now on I’ll sip a concoction that’s so very nebulous
I can’t be criticized if my faith seems too adventurous.

My cathedral has a dome the lightest shade of cornflower
sitting cross-legged on a boulder I feel the magma power
every time I hear or smell or see a precious sight
I am thankful to be infused with the sacred light.

If it somehow seems off kilter the way I like to pray
don’t preach down to me my friend, please just go away
if you must scoff at me for following a different star
my prayers for you will not cease, albeit from afar.

Agnosticism is the position that truth values of metaphysical claims usually related with the concept of religion and God, are unknowable. But really, doesn't this describe everyone? No one can "know" if God exists or not, but they can "believe". So - after reading your glorious write - I will say a prayer for you - in the 'belief' someone is listening ... bless! :-)

hmmmm the declaration of agnosticism seems a bit ascew in the mix of your "faith" V2 L4 .. "sacred light" V3 L4 ..."pray" V4 L1 and prayers" V4 L4 :)))))))))) Ms. agnostic ....;) i love the sitting on the boulder and feeling the magma ..i feel as though i am with you ...direct line to the center of the earth ... all spinning yet not ... flying through space yet not ... as relativity becomes so apparent ...love you hippie friend ..big hugs and .....er...prayers to you

Oh dear, the older i get the more i seem to understand what is important and that is not organized religion. God is just a word, it is love of nature and the goodness in people's hearts that matter, humility and kindness. Those that preach at others are to be avoided at all costs...live and let live

My mother gave me a round, smooth white stone that she had permanent markered the words: "The first one". It is a simple but powerful reminder that no one is qualified to throw it. This is both light and deep, a good combination of what true religion is.

It may be hard to believe, but in my early 20's, I was a bit of a bible-thumper. Even so, I could never blindly accept all the stuff that some others did. At this stage in life, I still have Christian beliefs, but they're all based on my own interpretations. Being a good person is what's most important, and experience has shown me that "christian" is not necessarily synonymous with that. Many of my friends are agnostics like you. I like that cornflower cathedral dome.

If we are comfortable with our own conscience, that is the way we will conduct our lives. I have one guiding rule ..." Do no harm". ...which is more than can be said of many "exponents" of religion. There must be a controlling factor in life and nature, but not in a form that we can idolise.

Its the tremendous wit I love here. As a non believer can I say that both believf and non belief does not have to be heavy. Excellent.

I just love this imagery! I love the message here too. I always believe God is much greater than usually perceived. He is not petty to hold our human nature against us. Kudos! And God Bless!

I think I have had too much herbal medicine, when I clicked on this I was expecting an acrostic :)
those organic cookies have given me dyslexia.

Spot on though BG. The problem I have with faith is it being rigid. Pray how you like, where you like...if people don't like, well they can pray for their idea of your sins.
My advice to organised religion...chill the funk out. :)
