Sunny Days of Yore

Sunny Days of Yore

A Poem by barleygirl
"

collaboration with Great Aunt Astri

"

You sprinkled sunshine on my days
like a seed I ceaselessly sought your light

guiding me through life's mixed-up maze

instinctively drawn from dark to bright.

Our love reflected moonlit magic

enhancing our passion each night
never suspecting anything tragic
could overshadow our sheer delight.

Like hearty red wine from far-away field

our passion glowed as we gulped it down

the sparkle in your eye irresistibly appealed

but it only reflected my inner clown.

Darkness descends now you are gone.

Did I frighten you with my delight?

Madly dancing till the break of dawn,

did my moonrise darken your light?

Thankyou for mentioning the fact that it was a collaboration between you Aunt Astri:) the two favorite aunts of mine at WC!

I loved the naturality and flow of this piece, very eloquent, bittersweet , yet so alive! I'm sure many like me would be thrilled to know that it's nite a piece written by a single poet, but two very great poets , who luckily had the same beautiful sentiments on this topic :)
I reread the piece after knowing that it was a collaboration ( just to know the diversity between the thoughts of two minds) but it brought me a smile, seeing that I couldn't see the variation in thoughts in any stanza, and it flowed so beautifully well, like a single person poured her heart out in this piece :)

This is one of the very touching piece that came out of a collaboration, that I've read this far at WC :)
I applaud you both for writing this excellent masterpiece, that left me awestruck! *Smiles*
👏👏👏👏👏 For you both dear aunts :)

I did love this poem. You create good visions and thoughts with the wonderful words.
"Darkness descends now you are gone.
Did I frighten you with my delight?
Madly dancing till the break of dawn,
did my moonrise darken your light?"
The above lines. I need a moonlight dancer and someone to make me laugh. Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

Collabs do seem a rarity on WC so 'tis great to see this one here! This flows very nicely and I love the bittersweet quality throughout. Excellent, you both 😊

This poem has a different feel about it from your usual but I really like it. I can't quite imagine how a collab' would work but it demonstrably has. Relationship breakdown is a common theme on WC but you always get one side. Exploring both sides would be interesting! Just a thought - your poem is not far from a classic sonnet! This is a great bit of writing made stronger by the emotional content.
Well done!

Some collaborations scream the joins, this one certainly doesn't. There might be a slight variation of meter but surely that is meant to compliments the writers' intention! Sweet phrasing throughout, by the way.

As to the content: if the gods are good and willing, two people share equal amounts of this and that various.. Yet, without knowing it, differences appear without mean intention.. they jut happen. Better that perhaps than stress and struggle. There are exceptions that find their own remedy.. and that is where a heaven is found. Surely. Could go on about that but - the way the collab' has been created is what matters.. and it matters very much.

A great and very successful collaboration for both you and Astri. Being able to combine and match individual thoughts and style together to produce a harmonious (poetically, if not romantically speaking) result is a credit to both of you. (((Hugs)))

Poignant and lyrical. barley girl & GAA- a great team! Love and sadness are so well-expressed in this poem. Tender memories, underlying questions-last line is evocative and hauntingly asked. Lovely form and rhyme. Loved this!

Light is the theme of this beautiful collaboration and I love the sprinkling of sunshine, the seed, such breathtaking images.

As for the lover's sad departure, sometimes our inner light blinds unprepared souls but that should not deter us from relinquishing our glory. Appreciated so much...
