Lumberjack Daze

Lumberjack Daze

A Poem by barleygirl
"

how woodcutting brings up reveries . . .

"

A marine layer up and down this coast
infuses August with a tranquil toast
the briny breeze is a cooling riposte
unbridling energy from the innermost.

Mornings beckon the harvest of oak
scent of sawdust, a daze is evoked
winter chill mixed with wisps of smoke
brow now beaded with each saw stroke.

Tottering on a seasonal verge
steadily freed from summer’s scourge
antsy anticipation is on the upsurge
an autumn feast all mine to splurge.

Ultimately deep in a lumberjack daze
adrenalin awareness as a branch sways
crrrrrack! splintering into crashing melees
triggers cinnamon crackle of holidays.

It's that time of year when I start doing the work of keeping my crackling woodstove going all winter . . . *mmmmmm!*

Nothing like the sweat of pulling a crosscut saw to get one in the mood for winter. Don't forget to gather the acorns. They roast up nicely in that hardwood fire.

Do you cut the lumber? I believe a woman is very sexy who can chop wood with skill. I liked this poem. Old fashion feel and create good places and vision. Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

I like the rhythm of this one BG - it's like a rocksteady saw stroke and the new season heralded by the sound of trunks falling down. For me it's the lack of swift's screaming in the eaves - an eerie silence after months of co-habiting.
