Ever Had a Friend?

Ever Had a Friend?

A Poem by barleygirl
"

just fantasizing . . .

"

Ever had a friend who scratched that itch
with a twinkling trace of tickle?

Or how about the friend who reaches out
just as your heart goes kerplunk?

Ever had a friend simply tickle your fancy
with no need for anything elegant?

Or the one who offers empathy through touch
without any know-it-all counsel?

Ever had a friend who arouses your best
with wholehearted encouragement?

Or he who shares his springtime garden
and hands you the first strawberry?

Ever had a friend with sunny smiles to share
with minimal whining and despair?

Or how about igniting a host of passions
with only a playful ravenous glance?

Ever had such a friend? Neither have I . . .
but I’m not very good at this either.

I enjoyed the structure and content of your poem. True friends are hard to find. I can count on one hand those that are true friends, who I could turn to in need and who wouldn't judge me. Also those who I would do anything to help. Everyone else is an aquaintance. True friendships take years to build and are enduring. Nice work.

Best wishes

Nice work, this piece is a real gem. People come and go, we learn, we live, we love through each interaction. True friends, long term friendship is hard to find, treasure it when you do. It's a real blessing.

Funny how we dog pile on a poem after one review. When I was reading your poem, I kept saying no. I think I said yes to one stanza, but I'm cool with that. I'll count myself lucky. The last stanza hit it. CD

dear Margie... a beautiful rendition of a true friend. I have had mentors who have been by example all of these things. We cannot do all this in one day, but like strawberry 🍓 Jam... we can spread it on toast and share with a friend. truly, Pat

If we have all the qualities you described in one person he ( she)will become a soulmate. All the day dreams and great novels are the stuff of your poem. I loved the way you asked us all if we ever found a friend every one looking for. Um beijo.

Wicked ending.
A friend in need is usually the bugger who borrowed money and never returned it.
In saying that. A friend with benefits is a godsend.
You couldn't borrow me a hundred dollars, could you? Pay you back eventually.

Your review is very intriguing, which I find refreshing! *smile* Fondly, Margie
I have a friend that fills the bill
much as you describe
He's right there when I need him
no speck of diatribe

There's one piece of the action
where he falls on his face
He'll grab that first strawberry
and never feel disgrace

The little dog I speak of
is only half-foot tall
He's underfoot at every turn,
and loves me best of all.
