Perfect Weather for Sniffin’

Perfect Weather for Sniffin’

A Poem by barleygirl
"

first rain of the season fell last night . . .

"

There’s a big new dawg in the neighborhood
holding court amongst our canine sisterhood
a striking German Shepherd named Ringo
arouses my girls to twirl the flamenco
barking up the hill darts mouthy Yeti
they’re all sniffing and tangled like spaghetti!

Cheek to cheek our dog spirits are soaring
after a midnight storm sent rain downpouring
olfactory stimuli is super abundant
with sage and pee-mail wafting pungent
now Ringo is flirting with my sassy Lola
rocking her curls the color of granola.

This morning’s doggie klatch is bustling
with Yeti and Paloma raucously snuffling
so many punctuated scents are flowing
canine curiosity enthusiastically growing
banging an abundant aroma get-together
in perfect autumn sniffing weather.

How this made me smile! I love my little dog who waits so patiently for me while I'm out. And I see the dogs around the neighborhood having such a good time roaming around. My eyes now see the dear dogs around you there so full of joy and life, and a bit of the wildness. :D

“Pee-mail”- Love it! Dog-gone good poem here Margie! Great dog names too. Great form, flow, cadence, rhyme. Vivid and delightful imagery of those darling sniffers and waggers. Equal opportunity gathering- no dog-ma or inhibition required. Pardon my puns, couldn’t help myself. Excellent doggie tail- I mean tale!!:):)

I can just picture the dogs frolicking about. I know the autumn weather always makes my pack of pooches extra frisky. I love the fun imagery of the dogs.

There's a whole lotta sniffin' goin' on! I've always wondered how in the heck dogs, with their keen sense of smell, could enjoy sniffing one another's butts. You'd think it'd be like, "Fifi, I can smell you from over here! Old Waldo's meaty bits--right?" Yeti-spaghetti, Lola-granola--now that's some fancy rhyming.

How i wish my two devils were further on with their human reading lessons.. would love them to read and enjoy a world which they, especially Slith, would simply lurv to live!

You make me laugh so much.. write scenes and happening, pee-sniffs and goodness knows what in lurid hillarious ways, dear Margie!

You my luv, are a remedy for all ills. If i could only would wag my tail in thanks.. sad to say i'm a mere human!

I much prefer sniffing humans, but they're a rather sparse species out here in the boondocks! *wink!.. read more
With the season of love on the doorstep, I can picture the frenzy of activity, especially with the new hunk on the block. Love the details that went into the poem, a keen observation of the animal world. I hope the ladies coexist happily and Lola doesn't have a heartbreak. Keeping her curls in top shape would certainly help. Thank you for such an enjoyable read.

I love the way you can take a seemingly insignificant fragment of everyday life and raise it to an elevated status of poetic humour. Your powers of observation and imaginative descriptions (e.g. pee-mail) in this poem kept me chuckling all the way.
Thanks Margie. (((Hugs)))

Ah yes, Ringo, the cute one! All it takes is a new fox in the henhouse and all hell breaks loose. When I walk my 'boy' the whole neighbourhood knows where I am by the yapping of the other dogs we pass. Good one Bgirl
