Did He Notice?

Did He Notice?

A Poem by barleygirl
"

true story . . .

"

This autumn skipped ahead to a frisky brisk
my crockpot’s bubbling a thick squash bisque
pardon this pause in our bracing fall days
as Father Sun sets the sycamores ablaze.

This late Indian Summer crept up on me
swapping hot coffee for a lemon sun tea
gradually the fervor began to penetrate
as a mellow fellow stood at my front gate.

Offering his thanks with a careless hug
my insides fired up a mean jitterbug
barely grasping the gentle of his touch
my thermostat clearly popped its clutch.

I couldn’t tell if it was sizzling or chilly
goosebumps swept my spine all willy-nilly
as fiery flashes painted red splashes
my mind traversed some wicked whiplashes.

I gasped when he offered a dinner invite
my vision periphery turned frosty white
lavender emanated with scented lotus
can’t help but wonder: Did he notice?

Author's Note

barleygirl
Indian Summer = a late heat spell in autumn
Yesterday it got up to 105*F (40*C) here, but I didn't even notice the blistering heat as I was standing at my gate being invited to dinner for the first time in about five years . . .

Your poetic account unfolds so tenderly, through the warmth of the world both inside and out. And I saw your note as well, and saw how the day colored your canvas with a sweet joy. Made me smile to sense it all unfolding for you there, and I lift my glass to you now. Cheers! :)

Hi there, this was a fun read. Mixing whimsical with serious emotion going on here, magical! I have no criticism of this piece because I am not a poet, but you are! I just realized if ever I need a smile, your page and writings will be my go to! Thanks for sharing!!

First. What's a crockpot.
Second. Guys just come to your gate and ask you out. Love it. The last time I did that. I got chased by some madman with a shotgun. You get out there girl and kick a*s. I mean enjoy yourself.

How wonderful! I hope you have a wonderful dinner with this mystery person and I am quite sure he DID notice! As always, the rhyming and imagery is stunning. I especially liked, "Father Sun sets the sycamores ablaze." Glorious! Lydi**

I love the rhyming, the metre, and the visuals that are inspired from your words. There is so much in here that I am drawn to reading it several times just so I do not miss anything. Bravo! A wonderful poem about a wonderful event in a person's life. I do hope the next dinner invitation does not take another five years to come. :)
