Did He Notice?

Did He Notice?

A Poem by barleygirl
"

true story . . .

"

This autumn skipped ahead to a frisky brisk
my crockpot’s bubbling a thick squash bisque
pardon this pause in our bracing fall days
as Father Sun sets the sycamores ablaze.

This late Indian Summer crept up on me
swapping hot coffee for a lemon sun tea
gradually the fervor began to penetrate
as a mellow fellow stood at my front gate.

Offering his thanks with a careless hug
my insides fired up a mean jitterbug
barely grasping the gentle of his touch
my thermostat clearly popped its clutch.

I couldn’t tell if it was sizzling or chilly
goosebumps swept my spine all willy-nilly
as fiery flashes painted red splashes
my mind traversed some wicked whiplashes.

I gasped when he offered a dinner invite
my vision periphery turned frosty white
lavender emanated with scented lotus
can’t help but wonder: Did he notice?

Author's Note

barleygirl
Indian Summer = a late heat spell in autumn
Yesterday it got up to 105*F (40*C) here, but I didn't even notice the blistering heat as I was standing at my gate being invited to dinner for the first time in about five years . . .

Your poetic account unfolds so tenderly, through the warmth of the world both inside and out. And I saw your note as well, and saw how the day colored your canvas with a sweet joy. Made me smile to sense it all unfolding for you there, and I lift my glass to you now. Cheers! :)

It is amazing how some days can be so special :) Your words took me to the place where all this majestically happened, and I couldn't help myself get off from that wonderland, before I read the last words of your poem, "Did he notice?"

What a delicious offering we have here, all wrapped up in an autumnal hue. Anyway, enough of prose, lets keep our fingers crossed there are no cons. I'm sure he did Margie, no doubt at all. An Indian Summer in more ways than one so to speak or write. I darn well hope you accept and have a swell time, your friend, N

This is so cutely written. You get the sense of the Indian Summer from the pace of the poem, like there is a lot happening at once and all very quickly. This was a lot of fun to read.
