Blue Moon Song

Blue Moon Song

A Poem by barleygirl
"

blue moon = 2 full ones in the same month . . .

"

Like a lollipop of cool wintergreen
there’s a fat full moon on the rise
thinking ahead to twenty-eighteen
how will she gild the night skies?

Having been born in early July
I’ve embraced the moonchild sign
dancing moonbeams lyrically fly
luring my wild child with shine.

“It only happens once in a blue moon”
that’s what moon mystics proclaim
two blue moons will be here soon
sparks to kindle our heart’s flame.

Twenty-eighteen starts with a splash
portending better days to come
some say moon mystique is balderdash
naysayers go sit on your thumb!

All the goodness we’ve been asking for
will grace all our lives before long
brotherly love and an end to war
as we chant the blue moon song.

This lovely and enchanting poem makes me think of the moon as a magical lamp gifted by God to his children on earth. A poem full of hope, optimism and a child-like fervour that I often feel in your spirit and one that I relate to so fondly, myself. Yes, let the naysayers sit on their thumbs. We are assured of a brighter 2018! Cheers Margie!

Tonight we have a very different picture -- a wonderful bright full moon , exploding fireworks all night and distraught dogs barking. Lucky you, with your quiet surroundings. Next few appearances over here should be more in keeping with your idyllic vision. I wait with breathless anticipation. There should be dew and frost to create a sparkle to the garden. As you say....yippee! (((Hugs)))

I think the moon is beautiful and almost magical. The way it's constantly changing, and the way it influence our planet and people, and the beautiful moonlight. I'm excited for the full-moon months! Love the poem.

Thanks for sharing your love of the moon -- same as mine *smile* Fondly, Margie
Ah, I love anything and everything to do with the moon. And I enjoyed your poem here. One of the most unique experiences I've ever had was on the Sonora where I saw the moon as big as a dinner plate in the sky. It was really an amazing and somewhat terrifying experience...like the moon was crashing into the earth! I could easily see all the craters and mountains in bold contrast with my naked eye. It's hard to explain and difficult to believe unless one sees it for themselves. Really a life altering experience.

I love the lines in this piece! It is very lyrical, in fact I'd love to hear it accompanied to the ukulele.

Thinking we should join hands and sing, "Kumbaya" after reading this one, Margie. You are definitely still a flower child and a child of the 60's/70's. Not sure the moon does much to change my life, but a full moon sure is pretty to see. Yes, there will be two months in 2018 with two full moons....I know I will enjoy looking at them. As always, your rhyming is super and the uplifting feel of the poem is wonderful. Lydi**

The lunatic fringe will see it as a sign to go out causing chaos no doubt. If only the world thought as you.
Reading this has me wanting to have a go at a rhyming poem, seems a while since I scribbled my last.
Hope all is well and you are behaving !!!

This is beautiful, and so full of promise and hope. I love the positivity of it, and the lyrical nature. Not all poetry has inherent music, but I sensed it here. I hope your naysayers are wrong, and that the coming year will embody the love and peace and optimism your song invokes. Beautifully written!
