Pooping Patch

Pooping Patch

A Poem by barleygirl
"

true story . . .

"

My wild childhood rocked the boondocks
our dogs romped free with coyote and fox
sometimes donning a drape of cornstalks
skunk scent wafting from muddy dreadlocks.

Much later on we migrated to town
not in the habit of leashing my hounds
my citified pets dejectedly found
a twenty-four-seven freedom crackdown.

Law-abiding city folk we chafed to be
found a bucolic bluff where my dogs can pee
morning constitutionals are forever carefree
no need to bring a pooper-scooper with me.

Few random neighbors scattered here and there
walking various dogs down the lane we share
there’s a pastoral pine-needle affair
releasing frightful fumes into the fresh air.

This secluded corner is the coveted spot
where every country dog is wont to squat
sniffing around to find a heap that’s hot
priming the pump on this fragrant woodlot.

You may be wondering who owns this land
will our public pooping patch ever be banned
the reason this guy won’t be taking a stand:
his pugnacious mutt is the most out of hand!

Well, I guess it works then! The dreaded Pooper Scooper discarded by the wayside can be a very cathartic situation!:) As long as it’s a free-for-all anyway, let the poop fall where it may. Your technical chops are in great form in this clever, humorous poem. The theme is hilarious and the storytelling is superb. Country dogs have it so much better than city pups- ‘there aughtta be a law’-ha! Love it!

Ah, Happy days, Margie.
Having had two dogs that revelled in rolling in fox dung, I'm well in tune, although net enamoured with this habit. Being a townie, now , I now have to carry poop bags on our walks, as casual canine crapping is now an erstwhile luxury. Apart from which, our Yorkie's offerings are instantly identifiable, They always have raw carrot in them!!! (((Shrugs)))

I can read great universal 'depths' into this poem. But it is much more fun on the level I think you intended.
As usual, beautifully done. I really enjoyed reading it.

Always original, Margie! And, so many of us can relate. It's nice to step away from the mind-twisting stuff we usually read on here, and remember the simple daily things. Thanks for this! I love it.

Ahaha! Moving to town, the stresses on a poor old country hound. Finding that sweet spot and not having to worry about the poop because of a much worse mutt. There's more here, I know how your stories work. I'll be back for a second read. Cheers!

oh the sacred rituals of pooping...so happy the patch is around ... my dogs use our gravel drive and then anywhere on our walks....during the nights and erly mornings their ten pund depth charges are strategically placed for tires and boots to hit ....so "that's me in the spotlight;" using my poop scooper ... flinging it into the woods ...setting up a boundary ... as far as i can fling ... poop......poop ...poop
