Madman in the Moon

Madman in the Moon

A Poem by barleygirl
"

YEAR OF THE DOG begins with a full moon . . .

"

Some seek thunderous throngs of Big Apple
while pensive ones murmur prayers in chapel
brooding I gaze to where star-scatters festoon
often beguiled by the madman in the moon.

Nocturnal lurking along my lofty rock balcony
tingling with traces of mingled astral alchemy
mottled limb shadows show lichen as brindled
oh madman in the moon, my fervor’s rekindled.

Distant wild fancies are achingly remembered
back in the days when sway was surrendered
spontaneous strolls on our voyage uncluttered
madman in the moon so temptingly he fluttered.

Howling my hunger on a breeze-basted bluff
gleaming moonrise spurs my ballet in the buff
his radiance strokes my twinkling toes to quiver
embracing lunar madman overlooking my river.

There in your words are that base bestial bent that gave rise to the old gods back in the past. The feeling of being one with the wild and the way it can infect every ounce of you. Being these so-called modern humans can be such a drag if we ignore our instincts. Great work with rhyme. Hard words to fit in the puzzle. I love it. CD

love it, you capture the energy of the moons ( full moon) madness... and the synergistic emotions it poses to us all

I always enjoy your writing Barley! And changing the 'man in the moon' to the 'madman in the moon' was a rad little twist. Very sweet and uplifting write my friend! :)

You nailed it 🤗
I enjoyed your vividly described adventure.

I think you should take 'their' out of the second line, of the first stanza, to improve the rhythm.

You sure you're in the wilderness.
You seem to be having a better time than us city dwellers. I'm off to dig a a big hole and call it the river Paul. Cut price orgies, and weekend specials.
How popular will i be now.
Okay, seem to have upset some old guy. For some reason he doesn't want a river in his garden. Bloody killjoy.

If only we could buy an extra moon for touches of that wonderful glow that absorbs and surrounds the human spirit! We all need touches of madness, the kind you write so gloriously about... the kind you love and are fed by - in all its guises.

Let's all howl at the moon then applaud whatever light shines inside and urge it to grow greater and brighter as per Margie's glowing light!

' his radiance strokes my twinkling toes to quiver
embracing lunar madman overlooking my river... '

(You) xx

The song of the original lunatic. This has a special cadence all of its own. From the Big Apple to the Big Sur in so many incredible words.

Great Druid-esque feel to this poem of abandon and celebration...superb form, flow, lunar imagery and inventive rhyme. I know the Madman smiles at your dance for him! Your beautiful spirit is transcendent in your vivid words. Stellar poem! (Wink!) xo

Moon madness gets to us all, eventually, but you have the courage to write about it it. We English are so restrained, that we wouldn't even think about waltzing in the buff at the end of December. **wink**
Great fun, though, Margie. Happy New Year!!!
