Coyote Devotee

A Poem by barleygirl
"

blue moon coming soon!

"

My paws pad nimbly along the Pacific Crest
snuffling evening scents as I drift to the west
briefly I pause for a rodent nibble and a rest
longing to erase her demise unexpressed.

Longtime mate graced the rainbow bridge
sparking my solo search along Sapphire Ridge
yearning spirit nudges me onward just a smidge
when an indigo zephyr keens frosty as a fridge.

This hefty heartache is my haunting bugaboo
tramping a scrub-brush trail until I find a view
sudden astral jinx spurs mysterious voodoo
unleashing coyote visions of a rendezvous.

My deft paws dance not unlike Don Quixote
as the blue moon traverses so misty and floaty
howling for a new mate all husky and throaty
come cute canine, let me be your new devotee.

I love Coyotes. I don't love them enough to not shoot them when they get to close to my chicken coop. I have this one that comes out around 5, about an hour after i get off of work and he sits about 600 feet away from us on his haunches and watches me and my dogs like we're crazy. Once, I started to run at him/her like a madman and he/she just calmly strutted off in the woods and made me feel like an idiot. (I was). Anyway, your poem was an excellent read, great use of language and metaphor. Huge fan of all the natural stuff you write. Goes down like whiskey. CD

I liked the coyotes. I met them often in odd places. The California Death Valley. I shared water with a few of them. I enjoyed the story in the poetry. I liked the wolves and the coyotes. They live in the city of Detroit somehow. Can see at night. I like where you live. Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry.

A delay answer. I do like them. In the California desert. I danced with them once.
I guess they are making their joyful noises to the Moon. I live in the woods of Alabama and I see all kinds of animals. They are amazing as your poem. Excellent rhyming.

I do agree. I feel at home in the wilderness so to speak. Enjoy. You are welcome.
A brave rhyming pattern! But thanks for reminding us that it's not only humans that know grief.

Just like humans, coyotes are just trying to live their life, like any animal actually. A great descriptions that takes you inside the mind of the coyote.

I recall years ago, the family German shepherd having nine pups. One died at birth. So we buried it straight away, thinking she wouldn't notice. She noticed alright. It was really sad.

A delightfully strange poem. I love the imagery and that last verse is amazing to read. That Rainbow Bridge is like Bifrost, right?

A great poem all in all

Seriously though, the message that even wild creatures need companionship is brought out so well with this lesson in compassion.
As always, I'm agog with your ability to maintain such a relevancy of language on all your topics ,and still use monorhyme so effectively.
