Frognosis

Frognosis

A Poem by barleygirl
"

is it spring yet?

"

With the chilly approach of February second
fresh traces of spring are starting to beckon
Pennsylvanians seek an emerging groundhog
but here in California our harbinger’s a frog.

According to Punxsutawney folklore
a humble groundhog will reveal the score
if this curious rodent sees his shadow
six more weeks of winter are his to bestow.

West Coast seasons are delightfully temperate
we ache for springtime in surges so desperate
that silly ground-hogwash is a deceptive joke
it’s high time to await the lyrical frog croak.

When mornings finally shed the drape of frost
verdant grasses dance across fields sun-tossed
a guttural chorus triggers tranquil hypnosis
denoting swift spring as the favored frognosis.

Another gem from your brilliant, creative mind. You sure make me miss California! Except for those cursed Santa Anna's the weather is just marvelous. Also, I can't think "frogs" and "California" without recalling Twain's "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" Do any of your frogs display athletic ability?

Margie, what I admire most about this piece (and a few others) is the playful tone. I'm continually impressed with your ability to rhyme. And, "frognosis?" Beyond clever. Such a pleasant thing to read as we continue to suffer through this season (at least in the Midwest).

Brilliant... Just brilliant. This works on so many levels and might I add, gives me a severe craving to visit California. There is such a beauty, tranquility and dare I say wildness in this piece.

P.s. I want your life, lass... lol
