Distant
dreams harshly harpooned and strewn
a loon faintly croons down by Phantom Lagoon
my broken heart swoons under a lofty balloon
it only ever happens once in a blue moon.
A late
night commune with Rocky Raccoon
passion rains down a monstrous monsoon
impugned by impulse for flesh finely-hewn
awaiting the hex of the next blue moon.
Naked
bodies spoon on a ravished sand dune
sensual synapses synchronize a new tune
blue moon swoon will be ending too soon
when Rocky reverts to a bumbling buffoon.
This howling thing you get up to. Is this legal.
Do all the neighbours come out at the same time.
What I'm really asking is. Is this a mass skinny dipping, under the pretext it's blue moon night.
It's blue moon night.
We get naked in delight.
Run about the hills.
It's a lovely sight.
Grab the nearest guy.
Howl at the moon.
Hope he lasts all night.
Doesn't come to soon.
The moon's gone down.
So has he.
It really did come to soon.
That blue moon.

Now I've got to get my creative brain fired up again & get caught up on all that I missed! I love this poem . . . it reminds me of the way it was, growing up in the country, living by a lake, where people were skinny-dipping in wild abandon & there were never any cops to break up the fun! Your poem is so good, I'm going to try to channel those old days of splashing & squeezing anything we felt dangling in the water, way back when! *wink! wink!* Thanks for the morning smile (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You're giving me such a difficult time
Trying to match your monorhyme
For though it may not be sublime
It fits the Blue Moon paradigm.
And though a lupine imitation
When viewing this lunar presentation
Produces instant exultatrion
It has no cosmic based foundation.
But... it puts me in a temporary phase
Of joining in this pagan craze
By finding even sillier ways
Your Blue Moon antics to appraise.

A hysterical but cynical piece, Margie. You do have a gift for finding and placing the perfect rhyming words. This might be a record. I always admire how you can playfully weave such emotion into your work. Too bad for Rocky and the other buffoons under the moon (my best rhyme in a review). Sorry... Another well-crafted, lighthearted poem. Despite the Rocky bashing, it was outstanding. :)

This was a really fun read with all the "oon" rhymes happening. You used some really great words right from the start: "a loon faintly croons down by Phantom Lagoon" That line was a real gem as the ideas and the meaning of the rhymed words were so complimentary to each other while the sound of the sentence itself was unique, musical, and blooming with the loon's tune. The 'oon' rhyme almost mimicked a loon's call, like a bit of onomatopoeia buried in the text, subtle, but I think present enough to be mentioned:)
Not sure I totally catch the Rocky Raccoon reference, though I didn't feel like I needed to for this stanza. I really liked the second line of the second stanza: "passion rains down a monstrous monsoon". The rain/monsoon imagery used with passion seemed perfect to me and the whole stanza I thought was creatively worded and well crafted.
The third stanza I think I may have taken the least from, maybe it was the Rocky Raccoon reference flying over my head. The first three lines made sense, but I feel like I missed a punchline. That's on me though, I think I better go do some homework on Rocky Raccoon.
Fun poem, as advertised in the description. You did not disappoint, and as I said before, the wordplay was lively, entertaining, and had a unique auditory effect when read aloud. Thanks for sharing this Margie:)

dear Margie... "It's only a paper moon" song comes to my mind. I would love ❤️ to hear Elvis 🕺Presley sing "Blue Moon" and also Frank Sinatra... I took an early photo last night on January 30, 2018. This evening the sunset was gorgeous here in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I cannot 😴 sleep, however, the night is just beginning two hours before midnight. Your poem is mystical and your poetry divine. truly, Pat

Loved it last evening and got up early, 6, this morning to enjoy it some more against a dark, dark blue sky. You are right Margie, there is something special about a full moon especially a 'blue" one.
I get the idea you don't just enjoy the moon for itself, but for the the stimulation it stirs.
Take care - Dave
