Rainy Day Romp

Rainy Day Romp

A Poem by barleygirl
"

first decent rain in a year!

"

As March alights the ridges crackle brown
threadbare trees seldom watered down
rain goddess finally dons her soggy gown
creekside debris is swept away to drown.

Despite the festive raindrop applause
furries seek higher ground for their paws
gentle coaxing met by Lola’s guffaws
as I step outside shy Paloma withdraws.

Continual downpour eventually eases
rivulets seek a way through limb pieces
luring canines with nibbles of cheeses
let’s romp before this rain rest ceases.

After a dump then a scattering of flint
morning routine ends in a final sprint
innocent gazes through a raindrop squint
as paw prints adorn flannel sheets of mint.

When a drop of rain can prompt such an enthusiastic piece, it makes us realise how important it is to well being. Over here, we tend to rely on sunshine to awaken our muse. Even your soggy doggies were able to provide inspiration. ((( Hugs))) N.

"Rainy Day Romp"
barlygirl,
Oh, I liked this. I could sense and feel the early March day. It is a reality that March gives just of taste, just a glimpse of sunny beauty between showers. You painted a realistic picture of the joy of catching a bit of time with a dogie companion to share a walk. I thoroughly enjoyed this poem. I really liked it all. I thought the part about "paw prints adorn flannel sheets of mint" was lovely. I have corsican mint growing all over. Kind of invasive, but oh it smells wonderful!
Blessings,
Kathy

I understand this poem. Hard days on the California coastline. Too dry. I liked your thoughts. Rain is a blessing and can be a danger too. Thank you Margie for sharing your words and thoughts.

Our Rain Goddess is lazy. some years doesn't show up in our parts of the world. This year a little better, so far she has been generous... when it rains I get little more excited than Lola.but our ill planned streets get flooded temporarily. My depiction of rain doesn't sound as romantic as yours! That's because I am always picking up colds and get sick( like right now). Soon you will have spring, and we have to wait until September. Um beijo.

Rain is a blessing for the dry ground as your poems are a blessing for the dry spirits of the sense of humor. I like how you mix serious matters in a light way full of hope.

You ARE a love - be safe.
Yay!- the blessing of rain. Not a deluge, but a freshening, cleansing “downpour” beautifully depicted in your vivid poem. Great picture, title, form, cadence and rhyme- I don’t know how you do it Margie! Your poetry is so awesome, refreshing and meticulously crafted. And on top of that- Lola and Paloma leave their personal doggie signatures to grace your words- haaaaa love it and them! :)))
