First SightA Story by BLBrownThe true story of how I met my husband, 35 years ago.t’was when I first laid eyes on you, that December I watched you in secret across the plain of the university and the air
left my lungs, my throat closed up tightly while I
burned in the 30 degree freezing winter day your eyes so blue I could see them from 20 feet away I stood stupefied, like a statue, mouth open, eyes wide in those days when guys wore shorts for girls to salivate over and muscled
legs meant to lie between my own, I was sure lust burning
through me like wildfire, new and unexpected when you glanced past me, not even a glimmer of interest and I wanted to shout, “I’m here!” but knew no guts or glory as I watched your ultimate swagger while you moved away
it became a game, planning out my various hiding spots for I was shy and meek and felt unworthy to give you my heart then the day mother came to pick me up for the weekend suddenly you walked by, all by yourself, in tee shirt and shorts “I’m gonna marry that guy,” I said with conviction, and my Mom stared at me as if I had gone completely mad
then your buddy had proposed to you the dreaded blind date recommending like from a menu, where you selected me my roommate asked if i had any interest in you, I lied "ok I guess," excitement filled me, as fireworks exploded and the world tilted and with this first date, I fell up in lust and down in love fascinated
by your every word, smitten, and proven right after a bit
of time it was your turn, staring at me in wonder you then fell
down in love with me, and I hid my smile from you for it was
your love that melted me like butter on toast it’s now been a
minute and 35 years, our road hasn't been easy yet still
I feel flutters in my stomach, or savor a secreted glimpse my “blind date,” after all this time, still blinding me in your light ©2012 Barbara Brown All rights reserved 05/20/12 © 2012 BLBrownFeatured Review
