We were both coming apart,
pulling each other down
in an independent
self destructive
free fall.

In the end,
I hit the ground
running --
feet pounding the dirt
so hard
that dust
had no chance
to settle.

When it finally did,
you were left there
on the ground,
bloody and broken
as you called out my name.
