Forgiveness

Forgiveness

A Poem by Sasha
"

Someone is experiencing the conflict of wanting to forgive and being incapable.

"

I find myself torn between the two

And I'm unsure which I should choose

Do I opt to forgive and forget

Or live a life filled with hate and regret

Inability would stoop me to your level

But you treated me as if I were the devil

Your behavior was completely out of line

The consequences still weighing on my mind

Strangers "know me" as everything you've said

Respect I was earning is just about dead

Enemies have ammo for all their lies

They swarm about me like insolent flies

It was a truly unjust punishment

For loving someone I felt was heaven-sent

An angel fallen from a kind saint's cloud

Could never utter the words you said outloud

It hurts to accept from who this came

When the man I loved is the same one to blame

The reason slurs are attached to my name

And I cower in the glare of public shame

I close my eyes and feel the burn

Of another tragic lesson learned

The decision is made and I choose to forgive

So you do not impact the way that I live

So when I find an honest version of you

I can still trust my heart to tell me what to do

I have been in this type situation before....it sucks. Deep down you know that forgiveness is the right thing because....

'Inability would stoop me to your level'
'So you do not impact the way that I live'

BUT......

'Your behavior was completely out of line
The consequences still weighing on my mind'

'I close my eyes and feel the burn'

You did a great job setting up the conflicting emotions in this type of a situation.
It is so difficult trying to over rule your anger/frustration when this s**t happens. Especially because the decision you know is right goes against your desire for revenge and achieving a sense of justice. Nice work.

"Enemies have ammo for all their lies, they swarm about me like flies." Great lines!
I thought it was a really good poem Sasha with an honesty in all your words. I'm not so sure I would use the word "So" in the second to last line as it does not contrast the same word in the beginning sentece before it. But that's just me

Overall a great poem. I like it.
