The Last Goodnight

The Last Goodnight

A Poem by Bhavya Kaushik

Shut down every window and close every door,

Don’t allow anyone to pass across this Boulevard.

Close your eyes now and hear their silent screams,

Coming from the main street, from the graveyard.

Shed every other color now and wear only black,

Let just mourn for the loss, and grieve for his death.

Let me remember his last memory, his last smile,

The things he said to me before his last breath.

In just a moment, he has gone to an unknown space,

There it goes- his frozen coffin out of the sight.

Let me say something to him, may be even a goodbye,

Let me wish to him with my cold words the last goodnight.

....

This is a very nice poem. I have indeed felt this way myself with a loved one who has passed away. You long to give them one last hug, kiss or goodbye, but death is permanent and we won't don't have the opportunity to do so for very long. We need to make sure to do these things as much as possible because you never know when will be time to go.

This was so sad and so very beautiful. That line "shed very color now and wear only black" was just perfect. This was just Shakeepearean in its simplicity and wonderfully written.
