Buckle My Shoe

Buckle My Shoe

A Poem by Ben Ther
"

A song in ABA; a fairy tale

"

Buckle My Shoe

One, two, I buckle my shoe
Three, Four, I was out the door
You gave me this countdown
And you made it as simple as nursery rhyme
And so this time, I'll be all right
If I can fight
These fairy tale tears

Like magic, you wrote the book on tragic
Heroes the dragons couldn't break
Princes trading their places with paupers
Zeros like the wicked witch and me

One, Two, Three, Four
Can we make this nevermore
Can we put away our castles built for war
Can our ships return to shore
And our flags fly at half mast
And our trumpets play the taps

Can you guess which stanza is the chorus?

I have to agree with the middle verse as the chorus, and as was said below, this is really clever. I don't think I've ever seen a nursery rhyme turned quite this way, and you did it very effectively. A powerful, if unusual analogy.

Fine piece of writing... so much feeling in it... words next to words fitting wisely and comfortably.

Clever use of nursery rhyme and the way you've built on it... really clever.

Sad though, a certain need for help . . a call in the dark...

Great middle verse.. guess that's the chorus... i could be wrong.. often am!

Thank you for sharing a fine post.

The last one... cause it ryhmes... makes it a catchier hook.......

I don't find this dark, I see this more as a call for light

here's my guess.

I like this man. It's light, then suddenly menacing and dark. Nice imagery to boot. "To boot..." Where the hell do we get some of these expressions?!

Pretty simple man with a headache. Often pegged as being preoccupied, but... who isn't. However, I believe in striking when the iron is hot. Oh yeah, and timing. Timing is huge. There's a lot to .. more..
