Love - first fruit

Love - first fruit

A Poem by P.J.
"

Inspired by the nine fruits of the Spirit

"

Love

Covers all with its smothering embrace

And clearly infatuates

The erring race

Sets apace flustering hearts, then ignites

A circle of fire with incinerating heat

Along a blazing street on which

We all walk, talk...though some stalk.

Meet it is that we

Gather together our cluster of thoughts

With commonality there is a degree of finality

That love is not

Take but give

Feeling but experiencing

Fulfilment of royal law

Delight, not humdrum chore.

Selfless, sacrificial, satisfying

Expression of unerring devotion

And for me

Best seen when not heard

I like the pull the close rhymes create in many of the lines. The subject is described well in such few words and with an incredible depth and understanding. Love it.

Delight, not humdrum chore.

I love that line, you have a whimsical use of vocabulary.

The ending...brilliant.

Love the last line.."Best seen when not heard" Thought provoking it is..and to each..love symbolizes something different..yours is a soft gentle approach..with devotion, selfless giving, delight and all those lovely images that constitutes true lasting love

When a person over-talks love, it's often because he or she isn't sufficiently living it--guilt manifested in speech, perhaps.
Enjoyed your beautifully high-minded view of our greatest of gifts.
Wonderful, P.J.!

It is always difficult trying to describe/portray such a vague and flittering thing like love but I think you covered most aspects of it. Nice ending too
