hsiao

hsiao stands for filial piety

in reverie,

as of writing a module

on Confucianism, 

i was awed by his teachings

regarding family.

Filial piety is respect

towards parents,

because when we were young,

they own our skin, face and mind.

they nurtured us to be who we are today.

Rebellion is out,

Conformity is in.

Family harmony is

equivalent to harmonious society.

with this in mind,

i begun to wonder,

why a lot of children

are mad at their parents

for many reasons 

which for me are excuses.

Thinking that rebellion is an answer

to their anger and angst,

without thinking that

parenting is not an easy job to take.

if there is only a course on parenting,

majority will enroll,

there is a need for a crash course,

for there is no room for regrets.

we owe them our lives,

no matter what the reason,

be they good or bad,

we have to love and respect them.

understand what makes them fallible,

what makes them imperfect,

what makes them human.

Hsiao was the virtue of Confucius

which means filial piety.

Start the day right by saying

I love you and Thank You to your parents.

Perhaps modern society could learn a few things from Confucianism. I don't know how it is where you live, but American society puts such a premium on youth that old age is dreaded. Too many don't honor their elders. Odd how this is so clear to me now that I am 72.

yes western culture is different from eastern culture, and sad to know that youth there are not keen on confucian thoughts they might learn a thing or two

I don't disagree of course, that harmony in the family is so important.
Why do kids rebel? That's a good question. Conformity can be a cage.
Perhaps they want to be individuals. Not every mother and father are built equal either.
Some better than others. But in a perfect world we would all just get along and life would be so great.
