MAY

It is MAY,

The merry month

Here In my native land,

MAY is a time for

FIESTAS,

A Spanish name

Which means

In honour of saints,

People do cook

No need for an invitation

People chat, eat and have a good time.

 

MAY is also time for

FLORES DE MAYO,

Spanish term for flower month

Wherein gorgeous women

Are being selected

To offer flowers to the

Blessed Virgin Mary.

 

MAY is also time for

SANTACRUZAN,

Wherein it is the

Re-enactment of

The Holy Cross

Found by St. Helena,

It is a procession

Led by the Reyna Elena

With the cross.

 

MAY  is also the time

For the first AGUA DE MAYO,

Or for the first rain of May,

Wherein it is believed,

That boosts the immune system

From diseases and illnesses.

 

MAY is also the time

For reunions, homecomings and baptisms.

Boy! My diet is really at stake here.

Just for today,

Attended a christening,

Attended a birthday party

And it is the FIESTA in honour

Of Saint Nicolas.

Since I’m housebound & disabled, it’s like you’ve given me the gift of a window to the world. In my agricultural area here on the central coast of California, the populations of various little towns are about half Hispanic, so we do have some great celebrations here, too. In the USA, there are festivals all summer long, with an excuse to extremely overeat on every weekend! It’s more a permanent lifestyle here, posing as a celebration! *wink! wink!*
