my poor state

It is time for a change,

It was his strategy

During the campaign,

Tired from the traditional

Politics all these years,

I thought it was time for a change.

 

It was a radical move,

I was so upset with the instability,

I was ready for a change.

So I voted for him,

And he won by a landslide.

 

Thinking that,

A lot of us has experienced

Discontent over the years,

Thought that something different

Will be good for the state.

 

Then came the political issues,

The economic downsides,

The human rights violations,

His leftist notion,

It is becoming apparent.

 

It was part of his strategy

To change this state

Into one revolutionary

And federal  form of government.

Dictatorship is the name of the game.

 

We were like pawns,

In his game of persuasion

For a chance of change,

The ulterior motive of

Abusing his power to the hilt.

 

First on the list,

Ousting people who are not on his side,

Creating stories and tales

Of betraying the public trust

And the quo warranto.

 

Second on the list,

Is citing multiple reasons

For a change to a parliamentary system

Which means a new constitution

Which means he cannot be impeached.

 

Third on the list,

Is total control of the

Three branches of government,

Laws which will b enacted

For the chosen few.

 

One day,

I will just wake up,

There is no senate or congress,

He will be in total control

And no one will stop him.

 

This is the start of Tyranny.

Hi Sette I have discovered over my seventy six years of life that one cannot trust any politician. they usually start off good, but then the power goes to their head. What we really need is for those with wisdom. but I can't see this ever happening. Power and greed are two of the deadliest thing within the human race. Sette, your amazing and touching poem describes the current political situations in many countries, as well as historical situations that arose in the world. Your wise verses describe a classic Machiavellian misuse of power-“Tyranny” incarnate. And historically these kind of despots have been ultimately deposed. It’s the suffering of their people, and the world’s people, during their reign of power that is the abomination. We make the best decisions we can, with the information that we have, at the time we make them, as you so well point out. As time reveals truth, I believe that there is always opportunity for positive change. Your poem is a very mature, important, honest and profound attestation with great form, flow, cadence. The last two lines have such resonance. Amen to your prayer.

I thank God that freedom of expression is not censored here. Having taught United States history, I have come to appreciate more and more our Constitution. I'm sure you must know that we too have a leader that has suckered many into believing him. I find it scary that even after all that has been exposed about him they still cling to this demigod!. I, for one, is very hopeful for our upcoming November elections.
