Phantom Pain

Phantom Pain

A Poem by k

"If you can't see it, it's not real abuse."

Behold your masterpiece
on my skin, invisible ink
runs down my arms.
There's no black or blue, it's not real.
Words have no power to make you feel.
Of course, I have no excuse.
If you can't see it, it's not real abuse.
We're all just after attention, after all,
and every one of us is crazy.
That's what you'll tell them.
I never even touched them, you'll say.
I guess this is just phantom pain.

The pain of words or neglect are often more hurtful than a physical attack. I appreciate your writing.

The first three lines are indeed masterful as you draw the reader in with an angry, sarcastic comment. In this the hidden abuse is exposed and the fact it remains hidden and is difficult to challenge remains.

I am an English student who (surprise) loves to write. I love reviewing the work of others and constructive criticism on my work is of course always welcome. I try to leave at least one suggestion for.. more..
