A Note to my Naive Self

A Note to my Naive Self

A Poem by Acropolix

I once told myself I knew love,
but love didn't know me;

I believed it was all wondrous,
and wondrous it was
to the very last of its existence,
where I left it to be a memory;

I once told myself love was what I needed,
but love wasn't needing me;

And so she withered away in this winter,
her petals sliding off my frozen heart;
through the summer wind she drifted free
to find the love I once spoke of;

I once told myself I was in love,
but love wasn't in for me;

You're such a great poet. It's a little sad poem. You don't merely write; you narrate. And you're darn good at it!
