Codependent

Codependent

A Poem by Brenda Woods
"

Of the danger of loving too hard, and needing someone too much.

"
how did we become like this?
perhaps it's your nature
tendencies towards loneliness
how you cling to friendship
or perhaps it's my suffering
how this broken heart yearns
for something to latch onto
oh, how broken we are

maybe this is our downfall;
i'll be selfish, even callous
put you above all else
what have i become?

place your hand over my heart
promise me we'll never part;
can you hear my pulse
how my blood sings
i need you, only you
i can't ever lose you

do you feel it too?
tell me what you would do
i've seen you lie
to keep me safe
are you as desperate as me?
are you as codependent as me?

i fear this coming to an end
fear that my heart will never mend
you are broken, i am sick--
how did we become like this?

Wouldn't the inverse be similarly damaging? I.e the modern culture of being too independent.....so we easily say " I don't need you" while deep down we know we do, but modern convention encourages us to always be so irrationally independent.......

Thought-provoking poetry!

I really like the tone you convey in this poem on how some things just fall to pieces in our hands and no one knows how they will end!

Please do not tell me how the story ends! All Relationships need work.....to work! One individual is more dominant than the other, more times than not! You need to develop the Rule of two and use it!

Well penned piece and some co-dependencies can destroy a life and some can save a life. Just depends on the dependency that is envloved.

Wise words :) Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Doesn't all forms of love present itself on the spectrum of co-dependency?
I remember a line from a movie "I don't think its possible to love someone too much but rather to love them the wrong way".
To love someone is to need them - more that oxygen itself - thus codependency becomes part of love. If you don't need them then you don't - you mustn't truly love them.

I love the soul searching in this Brenda. Its a tour de force and resonates.
Thanks for sharing.
Hope you are well my friend.
