Greater Than

Greater Than

A Poem by Brent
"

A poem about responding quickly to adversity.

"

Soaring through the air, he dunks the ball upon my head.

Should I get up quickly or lie there and play dead?

Well, lying down will make it seem

as though he crushed my hopes and dreams.

But, he did not.

It was a shot.

Two points for you.

Your turn is through.

Now, watch my team commence

the dismantling of your defense.

We dribble-drive and pick-and-roll

until spotted for a three-point goal

my teammate steps into the pass

and hits the shot off of the glass.

Any day I'll take the three

since three over two means victory.

Your words are encouraging, reminding us that when we face adversity, we still have an opportunity for victory.
