The Words You Speak

The Words You Speak

A Poem by Colleen C Dunphy
"

Inspired by a converstaion this morning.

"

The words you speak mean nothing

When your body says the opposite.

The words you speak mean nothing

When they've just become a habit.

The words you speak mean nothing

When your face tells a different story.

The words you speak mean nothing

When all thats left is pain.

The words you speak mean nothing

When you say them to everyone.

The words you speak mean nothing

When you mean nothing by them.

The words you speak mean nothing

When my ears are numb from hearing them.

The words you speak mean nothing

When they are just a mumbled montra.

The words you speak mean nothing

But your body speaks volumes.

The words you spoke meant nothing

But my leaving left you speechless,

the silence rang around us.

The words you speak mean nothing
When you say them to everyone.

How can we tell the truth from the lies? What isn't sincere and what is? Always forced to read between the lines. For many reasons I love this poem. I have seen that body language before.

Well done! Yes, I am a firm believer that actions
speak louder than words.. absolutely. If I tell you
that I love you but I go out of my way to hurt you
-- well, then what does that say about my words?
They were empty. Words are powerful -- very powerful,
but they must be confirmed with action or they lose
what power they have and shift from powerful to powerless.

This is a great piece. I like the creative way in which
you've expressed -- "actions speak louder than words".
Thank you for sharing this with me :)

Well done!

Wow now that was a powerful and no holds bar piece... actions do speak louder then words and pretty soon it's time to walk when the pain travels from your ear drums to your heart.

I like the meaning, and the truthfulness of it. I can see myself saying all the things that you have written here.
Thanks for sharing this with me!

I enjoyed the form. It was direct and to the point, with the underlying conflict being stated very powerfully. I can feel the silence at the end, very striking. I can feel the emotions dripping from every word. I feel for you if this is biographical, and if it is, keep your chin up. It's always darkest before the dawn Lee.
